History of the Firm
The Firm, located in Brzezinka, is the heir of the Joint Stock Company: Zjednoczone Fabryki Maszyn i Samochodow "Oswiecim", which produced the "Oswiecim- Praga" car popular in the pre-war Poland. Produced were both trucks and cars among which one can indicate the models of Piccolo, Alfa, Mignon and Grand, which car in 1931, due to very tough conditions, as one of the two only, reached the winning post of the Monte Carlo Rally. The cars were advertised by famous Clients of the Firm, among others by Jan Kiepura and Wojciech Kossak, who, in the autumn of 1933 reported in a letter to his wife:
"...I have sold the Cadillac and bought, under just funny terms, a beautiful "Oswiecim- Praga", eight-cylinder, brand new, in great style."
The post-war period brings about new challenges. The intensely developing mining sector gave an impulse to build up the Polish mining machinery industry. Also at that time came into existence Factory of Mining Machinery Spare Parts OMAG, as a producer of spares, first, and in the subsequent years - a manufacturer of lifting equipment and small-diameter drilling rigs. The economic transforma-tion and situation in the mining sector in the 90s caused the Firm to assume in 1993 the form and name it holds up to now. Factory of Machinery and Equipment OMAG Ltd., in its strategy thaced out the need for opening up to new markets. At present the firm, apart from its products for the mining sector, the Firm still maintain a leading position since OMAG is producing automobile parts.
